what I learned today

check out this cool-unnecessary-pregnancy-test gadget ! :) (just imagine, plugging it in your computer, after you wee on it..ewww, I can see something dripping on the table..)

I supposed to study for my exam, and this will be really boring post about my exam revision. I read pregnancy, lactation, and infant feeding today, for the sake of refreshing and recalling my memories, here's some 'fun facts' :

on pregnancy - you don't have to eat for two! just eat normal portion of food, choose good quality food. pregnant women will have a natural aversion to food with strong smell, alcohol, and coffee. (God, I hope when I'm pregnant, this fun fact is true!).

on lactation - it just as good as far as the mother nutritional status. If the mother eats crappy food, the breast milk quality wouldn't be so good, your breasts are not miracle workers. If you eat too much garlic, your breast milk will too. DHA and ARA fortified formula hasn't been proved to be beneficial, it just marketing strategies I guess, and generally, brestfeeding can reduce weight ~0.5kg/month, therefore, after 6 month of breastfeeding, you will used up all your fat gain during pregnancy. So, just relax, you will lose al your baby weight in 6 month, if not, maybe you should make an apoinment with me? hehe..

on infant feeding - introducing fruit in the beginning of weaning can lead to a sweet tooth toddlers. Introduce root pureed root vegies first, and iron fortified brown rice cereal, always introduce one food at a time. Biscuits are no good, will create a sweet tooth too. cow's milk has been linked to type 1 Diabetes. A 2 years old should have a complete variety of food, thus milk are not really necessary anymore (only if they had a balanced diet). Giving sweet food as a treat doesn't teach children healthy eating habit.
